I played to a high national level in the UK, representing Sussex throughout the junior age groups. I also competed on the British Tour and played in tournaments across Europe prior to being awarded a full tennis scholarship to NCAA Division One university Weber State in Utah, USA.
After Weber I went back to the UK to study a Bachelor of Sciences (Hons) in Sports Development and Coaching Sciences at Bournemouth University in Dorset. Whilst at university I coached at The West Hants Club (High Performance Centre - HPC) for four years, working with some of the best juniors in the country.
I graduated Bournemouth in 2005 with a 2:1 undergraduate degree (Hons) and a Level 4 Lawn Tennis Association Senior Performance Coaching qualification. I then began coaching at another HPC in Brighton for a year, before I was offered a Regional Performance Coordinator role at West Worthing Tennis Club, where I stayed for a further 3 years. At Worthing I managed the performance programme for 4 clubs in the region and introduced a talent identification system that produced numerous top national players and regional champions.
In 2009 I emigrated to New Zealand and accepted the Head Coach position at Tennis Northern in Auckland. I developed and managed both the performance and development pathways at Northern, expanding the junior base of players from just under 100 players to over 300 in two years. In the time spent at Northern I coached a New Zealand national champion in every junior age group from U12 up to U18, as well as Junior Davis Cup and Fed Cup players and top ITF juniors. I was also the regional coach for the U12, U14 and U16 teams during this time.
In 2013 I left Tennis Northern and establshed Kiwi Tennis alongside Charlie Bartlett. We started in one club and quickly expanded into the largest coaching provider in the country, managing the coaching programmes in over 18 clubs and 50 schools across Auckland and the Waikato regions.
I am currently coaching some of the strongest juniors in the country, including a Tennis New Zealand Targeted Athlete (criteria is to be on course for top 150 WTA).
As well as coaching Charlie and I established a company called Play Atlantic Ltd in 2003, which we managed until selling it to Crimson Consulting in 2015. We helped student-athletes find university sports scholarships in the USA and in our time we placed over 500 students, 50 of them being NZ tennis players, including an NZ Fed Cup player, UK Davis Cup player and players with ATP/WTA rankings.
In 2017 we also became the NZ distributor for Marcos Baghdatis' racquet manufacturer, PACIFIC.
