Adriano Carvalho

Glendowie Tennis Club
Head Coach

I Started playing tennis at the age of 9, at my local club in Cantanhede, Portugal and I competed at a regional and national level until I got into university.

I hold a Sports Sciences and Physical Education degree with Coimbra University and a Masters in Sports Psychology with Lisbon University. During my degree I was a “Erasmus exchange program” fellow student in Groningen, Holland, where I had the chance to work at Tennis Team het Noorden, a talent Regional Academy for selected elite young players, as a tennis and physical coach. I also hold a Professional Tennis Coach Level II License accredited by the Portuguese Tennis Federation.

I have been working as a professional tennis coach since 2000 to the present date, having performed at several clubs around Portugal and Holland. In all these years, I helped the development of elite young (including a Portuguese under 18 years old national number 1) and professional players having achieved several regional and national titles.

Also, I am currently publishing scientific articles about tennis, non- linear pedagogy and ecological psychology.

Due to my scientific background, I try to implement in all training sessions the most innovative methods that comprise a full scope of all sports sciences and treat each player as an individual with a specific profile, that requires a particular approach.

As a coach you can expect from me someone friendly, ethical, easily approachable, that can create a highly motivational session environment and that will always try to get the best out of you.

In addition to the group and individual tennis lessons, you can also approach me in order to train mental skills through on/off court practice sessions.

Looking forward to meet you all on the tennis court!
