Ben Stephens

Senior Coach

Ben brings both a strong playing background and a growing depth of coaching experience to the Kiwi Tennis team. Currently completing his ITF Level 1 Junior Development Coaching Qualification, Ben has quickly established himself as a committed and enthusiastic coach.

A lifelong competitor, Ben began representing Waikato at just 10 years old and went on to play for Waikato-Bays in the Junior National Teams Event across the U12, U14, and U16 age groups. More recently, he has competed in the Chelsea Cup on Auckland’s North Shore, reaching back-to-back finals with his team in 2024 and 2025. Having played countless tournaments across New Zealand, Ben understands the demands of high-performance tennis and the dedication required to succeed.

Ben’s coaching journey began alongside his playing career, assisting part-time before stepping into a more dedicated semi-full-time role in 2025. He now coaches a wide range of players, from young beginners and school groups to adults and competitive juniors, across clubs, schools, and private sessions. His coaching philosophy is centred on tailoring the environment to each player’s needs, ensuring they can train effectively, improve consistently, and enjoy the game. He firmly believes that hard work and frequent training are the keys to reaching high performance.

Away from the court, Ben leads an active lifestyle and enjoys surfing, dirt biking, and hunting, while also making time to relax with a good TV series.
